Things To Do In Kenya In The Month Of August

Looking to visit Kenya in August? Well, this is the best month as the weather is warm with no rain and other than that, it's also the month when the great wildebeest migration in Masai Mara happens. This event alone has been described by different travelers as the 7th wonder of the world.

Visiting Kenya in August?

1. Visit Masai Mara and witness the wildebeest migration

The great Wildebeest Migration starts in the later part of July and by August, it is in full swing. The wildebeests migrate from Serengeti National Park during this time and the vegetation is thinner which makes cats and other game animals easier to spot.

Wildebeests typically inhabit the Serengeti plains of Southeastern Africa. For most of their lives, wildebeest graze in the grassy savannas and open woodlands of the plains, which straddle the nations of Tanzania and Kenya.

This phenomenal event happens annually with millions of wildebeests who are accompanied by other grazers such as zebras, gazelles and impalas going across the great Masai Mara Serengeti with the Mara River crossing being the climax of the migration period. The sight of the first herd of animals rushing into the crocodile-infested river will take you through a range of emotions including anticipation, heartache and even excitement when they finally succeed in crossing.

2. Head to the Coast

There’s never a wrong time to visit the picturesque Kenyan beaches with the stunning white sand, rich turquoise waters of the Indian ocean.

August is the best month to spot marine life on the Kenyan coast at Watamu beach. The humpback whales come to the surface of the water, making this whale watching exercise such an epic experience.

There are also lots of ocean-based fun activities including snorkeling, surfing, scuba diving, sea kayaking, dolphin-watching boat tours.

3. Hike Mount Kenya

As the country experiences fair weather during this month, it's the best time to conquer the highest mount in Kenya. Apart from the excitement that comes with summitting Point Lenana which stands at 4985m, the hikers get to experience the wilderness, abundant wildlife and stunning mountain lakes.

The trek to the summit is such an enjoyable experience walking through volcanic peaks, the savannah and the valleys. Hikers get a great experience doing both outdoor and indoor camping in the middle of the mount.

4. Visit the capital city- Nairobi

There will never be a shortage of things to do in Nairobi, if you are a party person, the Nairobi party life will amaze you. Nightlife in Nairobi is bustling with live music everywhere, nightclubs hosting DJs.

Other than that, Nairobi is the only city in the world with a national park on its doorstep. It is the home to four of the big five including lions, buffaloes, rhinos, and the leopard. Nairobi also hosts a lot of other points of interests including a national museum, magnificent shopping malls and it’s a hub of arts and culture in Kenya.
