CKC 001: Nairobi National Park Half day Tour
What to Expect
The tour takes about 4 hours. Located
just 7kms from Nairobi City Centre. The tour is an ideal layover escape or
add-on to your existing safari. We will pick you up from your Nairobi Hotel or
from the Airport and transfer you to the Parkâs Gate.
Upon arrival at the Park you will notice the uniqueness of this jewel within the sight of Nairobi Cityâs skyline whereby you can spot the lion, rhino, giraffe, buffalo, cheetah, hyena, zebra and many more. The wildlife here is really in the wild not in a zoo. The Park offers more than 400 bird species too and also houses the Ivory Burning monument- a testament of Kenyaâs commitment to the conservation of the elephants.
The Park offers guided walking trails and Hippo pools. After the tour we will transfer you back to the Nairobi Hotel or to the Airport.
Nairobi National Perk covers 117.2 kilometre squared. In 1910, the British government set aside an area of open plains for the animals in Nairobi. This was to reduce the conflict between humans and wildlife. Farms and livestock increasingly started growing in this area, with conservationist Mervyn Cowie campaigning for the establishment of a national park system in Kenya. Nairobi National Park was officially established in 1946. It is fenced on three sides, whereas the open southern boundary allows migrating wildlife to move between the park and the adjacent Kitengela plains. Herbivores gather in the park during the dry season.
Kifaru is Kiswahili for rhinoceros and the Park supports the largest population of endangered black rhinos in Kenya. The Park has earned the nickname Kifaru Ark.
