QUICK FACTS ABOUT MAASAI MARA
It
is situated in the South-West of Kenya.
This
is undisputedly one of Africa's best known and Kenya's most famous wildlife
destination. It is a must visit destination for almost every traveler coming to
Kenya.
Together
with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, they form Africa's most
incredible, diverse and most spectacular eco-systems and possibly the world's
top safari big game viewing ecosystem.
The
terrain is fairly a classic savannah and has a consistent landscape of open
grasslands. This makes it easy to spot wildlife and the Great Wildebeest
Migration.
Maasai
Mara is wildly and best known for the Great wildebeest migration, which occurs
annually between July and September. During this time, close to 1.5 million
wildebeest, antelopes and zebra migrate from the Serengeti (Tanzania) to the
Maasai Mara (Kenya) in search of food and water. However, the migratory routes
greatly depend on the weather patterns and other factors.
The
reserve also boasts of around 500 bird species i.e., Ostrich, secretary bird,
cranes, eagles, marabou stock and vultures.
The
Maa community is the largest community in this geographical area. A visit to
the Maasai village to learn more about their culture and traditions will be a
bonus and a great experience as you will interact with the local Maasai
community.
