What to Expect

This climb will take 5 days to the 3rd peak of Lenana. There are other routes and one take up to 6 days. The highest peak of Batian needs technical climbers and will generally add 2 more days to the trek itinerary

Day 1

We depart from Nairobi at 8 am and drive through the Thika Super-Highway to Nanyuki Town where we arrive at our hotel in time for check-in and lunch. Afternoon is spent at leisure while acclimatizing and making sure that we have the right mountain climbing gear.

Dinner & Overnight at your Nanyuki Hotel

Day 2

After breakfast we depart to Sirimon Gate for entry procedures and then trek all the way through different vegetation that changes with altitude (forest, bamboo, rosewood and hearther zones). Picnic lunch is taken along the way. We may chance on elephant or buffalo herds crossing. Arrival at our camp is in the evening.

Dinner & Overnight at Old Moses Huts (about 3,300 Meters above the sea level)

Day 3

After breakfast, we depart for a longer trek (abotu 14 km) via interesting landscape and vegetation (moorlands, Makinder's valley, cols, rivers, tarns and the amazing giant groundsel & lobelia flowers plus the mountainhyrax animal which interestingly gets bushier with increase in altitude). With picnic lunch along the way, we arrive at our camp in the evening.

Dinner & Overnight at Shipton's Huts (about 4,200 Meters above the sea level)

Day 4

This day we wake up at around 2:30 am for a light snack and then depart at 3:00 am for the last challenge. This takes us through steep scree and bare rock, past blue tarns and to the peak of Point Lenana (3rd highest at 4,900 Meters above the sea level) where we arrive in time for the beautiful sunrise. From here, on a clear morning, do we see the Kibo peak of Mount Kilimanjaro (southwards at a distance of about 350 km), Aberdare Ranges peaks including Ol Doinyo Lesatima (westwards) and the Koitoboss peak of Mount Elgon (further westwards).

Later in the morning we descend to Makinder's Hut for breakfast and then further down into the alpine forest, past the vertical bog and arrive at Met Station where we spend the rest of the day at leisure while exchanging notes (lunch inclusive)

Dinner & Overnight at Met Station (about 4,300 Meteres above the sea level)
