What to Expect
Embark on a captivating 9-day Big Five Safari 2023 with Nature Expeditions. This adventure encompasses the diverse beauty of Kenya's landscapes and wildlife. Beginning in Nairobi, the journey takes you to Aberdare's Solio Ranch for a game drive, fostering rhino conservation. Proceed to Samburu Game Reserve, a land rich with unique wildlife and colorful Samburu culture. Explore the Reserve's exceptional birdlife and landscapes. Traverse to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a haven for the Big Five and other remarkable creatures. A boat ride at Lake Naivasha's Crescent Island precedes a venture into the iconic Maasai Mara, where thrilling game drives and optional ballooning unveil the wonders of the animal kingdom. The tour culminates in a return to Nairobi. Join us for a truly unforgettable safari experience.
Day 1
On arrival at JKIA, you are met by a Nature
Expeditions representative and drive with picnic lunch
boxes to Aberdare followed by an afternoon game drive at Solio Ranch. This
ranch plays a very major part in the protection and breeding of black rhinos,
the ranch is a fenced, privately-owned protected area geared toward rhino
conservation, Rhino is a member of the big 5 group which includes lions,
leopards, buffaloes, and elephants.
Day 2
Aberdare/Samburu
After breakfast, check out and drive further
north of Kenya to Samburu Game Reserve,
within the land of the colorful Samburu people, close relatives of the
Maasai, and harbors several wildlife species found only north of the equator.
It offers unique vistas of rounded and rugged hills and undulating plains. The mix
of wood and grassland with riverine forest and swamp is home to a wide variety
of animal and birdlife. Check-in at the lodge, lunch, and later in the evening
proceed on a game-viewing until sunset.
Day 3
Samburu
Spend another day in this Reserve where game
viewing and visibility are excellent. Bird life is superb with over
380-recorded species and the game. Scenically, for most of the year, Samburu is
under the unsympathetic equatorial sun. Relief comes from the Ewaso Ng’iro River, which rises
hundreds of kilometers west on the Aberdare’s foothills and vanishes beyond
Samburu in the recess of the Lorian swamp.
Day 4
Samburu/ Ol Pejeta
After
breakfast, check out and drive to Sweetwaters, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, The Conservancy boasts an
astounding variety of animals including all the big 5 animals among others. Check-in and all meals and overnight at the
camp.
Day 5
Ol Pejeta / Lake Naivasha
After breakfast, check
out and drive to Lake Naivasha. Have Lunch at the lodge and later visit
Crescent Island. Take a boat ride to Crescent Island and enjoy a nature walk on Crescent Island, a crescent-shaped
peninsula.
Day 6
Lake Naivasha/ Masai Mara
Clients will check out after breakfast and drive to Masai Mara. Arrive and check-in at the camp in time for lunch. Depart later for an evening game-viewing drive in the Reserve which is a spectacular place of breathtaking sceneries.
Day 7
Maasai Mara
Experience game-watching with morning and afternoon game drives and other activities in the Mara including visits to Maasai village and ballooning (extra cost). Wildlife is abundant in the Mara Reserve with the gentle grasslands ensuring that animals are never out of sight. Birds are prolific including immigrants. The big cats - lion, leopard, and cheetah - follow the wildebeest, essentially their main source of food, into the Mara.
Day 8
Maasai Mara
Experience game-watching with morning and afternoon game drives and other activities in the Mara including visits to Maasai village and ballooning (extra cost). Wildlife is abundant in the Mara Reserve with the gentle grasslands ensuring that animals are never out of sight. Birds are prolific including immigrants. The big cats - lion, leopard, and cheetah - follow the wildebeest, essentially their main source of food, into the Mara.
Day 9
Maasai Mara/Nairobi
Early morning game drive followed by breakfast. Return to Nairobi then transfer to the Airport for the departure flight.
