What to Expect

Take the early morning drive from Nairobi  to Nanyuki Town. This Day Trek is designed for those with limited time and still wish to enjoy the fascinating vegetation zones of an equatorial mountain and the associated rich animal and birdlife.

Drive drive to Nanyuki Town takes about 4 hours from Nairobi with return to Nairobi in the evening. The Mount Kenya catchment provides a major water table for the whole country and the surrounding land is the breadbasket of Kenya.

Mount Kenya is a dormant volcano jutting out of the plains of East Africa and stands as the second highest mountain in Africa lending its name to the country of Kenya. The mountain has multiple peaks is capped with glaciers and is home to some beautiful and unusual animals and plants.

From the lowland savannah and bamboo forests the flora changes as you rise in elevation. Here you will find the unique high-altitude equatorial environment. The landscape seems as if it belongs on another planet with strange plants and misty terrain.

You will be dropped off at the Sirimon Gate of Mount Kenya and commence the hiking right there; with your packed lunches and a guide. You will trek through the forest upto the Old Moses Camp at 3000 meters above sea level. You watch many bird species here  and will also have an opportunity to have a great view of the main peaks of Mount Kenya as well as the famous Teleki Valley.

Afterwards, you descend back to the Sirimon Gate and take the transfer back to Nairobi  and are dropped off at your City Hotel or the Airport.
