In Machakos County and about 64 km south-east of Nairobi, this is a hill of an amazing optical illusion where its slight downhill slope appears to be uphill due to the surrounding land’s layout. Here, one gets the impression that anything that is supposed to go down does the opposite. This becomes more pronounced when you pour water on the tarmac or leave your car out of gear, and they seem to go uphill. It is quite an experience to visit, away from the hustles and bustles of the city. It has been therefore nicknamed “the Magic Hill”. The locals traditionally believe that walking around the hill 7 times turns one from male to female or vice-versa. Reaching the hill is a 12 km road stretch from Machakos town with twists & turns.
