This park is located between Thika and Machakos and is about 60 km from Nairobi, with a very good view of the city. The name means “big mountain” in Masai language. The small mountain in it is also called Kilimambogo, which in Kamba language means “mountain of the buffalo”. It is home to over 45 birdlife species including the African hawk eagle, grey-headed sparrow weaver and mourning dove among others. Buffalo is the main wildlife roaming here besides bushbucks, leopards, baboons, porcupine, pythons and monitor lizards. When at the summit and on a clear day, one is able to experience scenic views of Mount Kenya.
