What to Expect
Lake Nakuru National Park
Dubbed the birdwatchers Paradise, the lake inside the park is home to a spectacular variety of terrestial birds numbering over 450 species, including the migratory ones that do not breed here. The area consists of Makalia Falls and Baboon Cliff which gives one a bird's eye-view of the whole park including the Nakuru town. The park itself is home to wildlife including the highly elusive and endangered big and meek plains white rhino and its smaller but aggressive forest cousin black rhino, rare Rothschild giraffe with its white shanks (like football socks, unlike its common cousins along Naivasha Highway, Mara, Amboseli and Nairobi), the occassional leopard and various small small & big antelopes. The lake itself is a haven for both the Greater & Lesser flamingo that provide a pink carpet over its stretch when viewed from the cliff or from the shores. Other birds include egret, kingfisher and the conspicuously sized giant pelican among others.
Lake Naivasha
This Rift Valley fresh-water lake is a major getaway for those yearning for a holiday with a difference. It plays host to very large hippo families and prolific birdlfe including kingfisher, fish eagle, the lighter pink-shaded Greater flamingo and the dramatically large pelican among others. A boat-ride here would take you closer to all these with a crowning of game-viewing while on foot at the Crescent Island, a sanctuary hosting giraffe, wildebeest, various antelope species, zebra and other plains game (not predators). The Naivasha area itslef is home to Kenya's robust horticultural farms and would act as a launch-pad for other nearby adventure spots like the National Parks of Nakuru, Hell's Gate & Mount Longonot. Activities to be done here include hiking, cycling, horse-riding and boat rides (these come at extra costs negotiable direct at the lodges upon request)
Day 1
You will be picked up from your Nairobi City Residence by your driver-guide at 08:00 am and after a brief introduction you depart for safari to Lake Nakuru National Park with a brief stop-over at the panoramic Viewpoint of the Great Rift Valley and arrival at your lodge in time for check-in/lunch followed by a short rest.
Later afternoon, a game viewing drive in the park follows to run until sunset and then return to camp.
Dinner and overnight at a game lodge (L,D)
Day 2
After breakfast, you head for an en-route game drive round the lake and exit for Lake Naivasha where you arrive at your lodge in time for check-in and lunch. Afternoon will be spent at leisure with options of swimming, a nature walk or boat-ride to the Crescent Island (at an extra cost).
Dinner and overnight at a game lodge (L, D, B)
Day 3
After breakfast you check out and depart mid-morning at leisure. Drive back to Nairobi to mark the end of your safari.
